Happy Book Birthday! USED is available NOW!!!
At the age of seventeen, after a decade of lies, hurt, and severe abuse by her brother Lucas, Sabra Valentine is able to breathe.
Lucas is behind bars thanks in large part to Sabra’s quick thinking and self-preservation—even if that’s one more secret she has to keep.
Now, seven years later, life is moving forward, and Sabra is starting to heal, live, and love again with her friends and Trevor Collins by her side. He’s tall, dark, and sexy, and he doesn’t fall for Sabra’s games. The future is finally looking bright—until one phone call shatters everything.
Used is a romantic suspense with domestic thriller elements. Please be aware that there are topics that may be triggers for some readers, and this work is meant for mature readers.
MY REVIEW!
Used by Kate Dunbar
Narrated by Stella Hunter
Hearbreakingly good. Twists that you never see coming.
Sabra has a past most would weep from, or find themselves committed to a hospital.
Secrets become unburied, many where I had to catch my breath and pause to take in the immense emotions the character is facing.
Triggers come from anywhere, at any time, and in any place. It doesn't matter where, when, or whom you are with. Sabra's tale is gut-wrenchingly sad, but also speaks to so many of us who have lived through their own hell.
This is where the person going through the agonizing moments, days, or weeks, can find solace in something they do, such as a hobby or work, as well as the people we find mean the most to us and want to protect us to no end.
Sabra finds her solace in Trevor, a University professor who loves Sabra for who she is, what she loves, and all that she stands for. Pure love and enjoyment in a bond unlike anything found that each character has felt before. He is her safe place, her comfort.
The author knows how to give the reader/listener just enough of a glimpse into the heroine's past to keep us on our toes and wanting more. Drive and passion fall into the tendrils of love, this book has that in full swing, as well as necessary comedic relief placed perfectly, and sexy scenes that leave you swooning.
All in all, the ending is the one thing that threw me for a mega loop, of course in the best, 'Oh my gosh!' way. It's only top notch authors who know how to keep the reader/listener wanting more, even after the book is done. Well done Kate! Ready for the next installment!
